Relieving Depression in the Elderly - Allow Expressions of Faith and Impartation of Wisdom

Allowing individuals, especially the elderly population, to express their faith and pleasurable moments in their life can be very effective in decreasing depression. Many of the elderly population yearn for the opportunity to express their beliefs and impart wisdom to their families and friends. We live in an age when youth and beauty is vividly expressed in television commercials, on billboards, and in the fashion stores. When taking into account the many elderly people who watch television ads on youth and beauty, it is little wonder why the may feel discouraged. When health ministry assessments are utilized, especially in the Appalachian region, effective approaches used are the incorporation of listening and learning. Listening to impartation of wisdom from the elderly and attentive listening to the pleasurable art of telling stories.
